Congratulations! You’ve gone through the hard steps of gathering all of your documents for your attorney, signed the petition, attended the 341 hearing, resolved all the objections and your case has been confirmed. You might be wondering - what happens after my Chapter 13 bankruptcy is confirmed?
1. Monthly payment - Noticing a trend here? Chapter 13 is all about your monthly payments. After your Chapter 13 is confirmed, it’s important to make your monthly payments.
2. Tax return- Some trustees require you to send your taxes each year.
3. Post petition counseling - Similar to the first credit counseling class, you must complete a second counseling class. You have until the end of your Chapter 13 to complete this but you should complete it as soon as possible so you don’t forget.
4. Discharge - Once you’ve made the required number of payments (generally 60), the court will issue an Order of Discharge. Some courts reqire your attorney to file Debtor’s Certification in Support of Discharge. This document says “Hey, I’ve made all of my payments and I need my discharge!” So, it’s a good idea to keep track of the number of payments you’ve made and let your attorney know when you’ve made all of them.
