Your Secret Is Safe With Me

The other day I was wandering the junk food aisles of my local grocery store when suddenly I found myself face-to-face with one of my clients. She looked a little shocked to see me and I started thinking about the time when, in high school, my science teacher walked into the Boston Market where I was working. I remember suddenly realizing he was not just a teacher but a real person and I wondered what my client thought of seeing me outside the office.

What I hope she didn’t feel is embarrassed. It’s incredibly important for me to make sure my clients understand that any information they share with me is privileged and that I will never disclose their bankruptcy filing to anyone.

The decision to file for bankruptcy is often very difficult to make and I really do understand. The last thing I want is for my clients to feel uncomfortable if they see me in public. As a matter of fact, I often encourage my clients to keep in touch so that I can help with the process of rebuilding their credit scores after bankruptcy. I can also give them referrals to other attorneys if the need should ever arise.

While I hope to keep hearing from you, the choice to keep in touch with me after you receive your discharge is completely the client’s decision. I can understand bankruptcy was probably an experience you didn’t want to go through and maybe I remind you of a difficult time. Just know that your private business will always remain private, no matter what choice you ultimately make.
